Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), is a Schedule ‘A’ Mini-Ratna, Category-I Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Mines. Incorporated in 1967 under the Indian Companies Act, 1956, HCL is the only company in India engaged in copper ore mining and holds all the operating mining leases for copper ore in the country.

The company's current focus lies in exploration, mining, and beneficiation of copper ore to produce and sell copper concentrate. HCL operates copper mines at Malanjkhand (Madhya Pradesh), Khetri (Rajasthan) and Ghatsila (Jharkhand). It has facilities of a primary smelter and refinery at Ghatsila (Jharkhand), secondary smelter and refining facilities at Jhagadia (Gujarat), and a Continuous Cast Copper Wire Rod plant at Taloja (Maharashtra). Operations at the Jhagadia and Ghatsila smelting/refining facilities have been suspended since 2019 due to business considerations. The operations at the Taloja plant are currently limited to third-party tolling activities.

As of April 1, 2025, the company employed 1,274 regular personnel, comprising 587 executives and 687 non-executives. The Registered and Corporate Office of HCL is located at Tamra Bhavan, 1, Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue, Kolkata, West Bengal, Pin -700019.

As of March 31, 2025, the authorized capital of the company stood at ₹1,100 crore, with a paid-up capital of ₹483.51 crore. The Government of India holds a 66.14% equity stake in the company.

In the concluded financial year FY 2023-24, the company has earned a Profit Before Tax (PBT) of Rs. 410.43 Crore against a Net Sales turnover of Rs.1686.51 Crore. For 09 months ending Dec’2024 the Company achieved a PBT of Rs.373.92 Crore against a Net Sales turnover of Rs.1327.19 Crore. The Company has been consistently distributing dividends to its shareholders since FY 2020–21.
